Zayn Malik's Departure From One Direction Didn't Break Group? Simon Cowell Speaks Up About Hit Boy Band's Future

Zayn Malik’s departure from One Direction has not broken the group, says Simon Cowell.

According to a report from Your Daily Scoop , the former “American Idol” judge recently spoke about the future of the hit boy band.

The English producer was responsible for creating the phenomenal all-male group when they joined the reality singing competition “X Factor.” The outspoken producer explained how Zayn Malik’s departure from One Direction did not leave the group broken, even though they were caught off-guard.

“Once the decision was made I dealt with it, then I made sure the guys were OK – because they were shocked,” Simon Cowell said.

He said that the remaining members – namely Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan and Liam Payne – were still able to pull off their then ongoing shows.

“For the boys it was interesting because they were in the middle of these live shows at the time,” Simon Cowell pointed out.

“Then I watched the show back and they were incredible…

I have a feeling they are going to deliver the best record they have ever made.” Even though Zayn Malik’s decision to quit One Direction left fans’ hearts broken, Simon Cowell admitted that he expected the departure.

“I kind of knew this was coming to be honest,” he said.

“I’d had a few conversations with him, he wasn’t happy and I was trying to say to him, ‘No I think you should stay around a bit longer’.

But something inside him said he’d had enough.” “I saw him in person as well – but once someone has made their mind up they are going to go,” Simon Cowell added.

The notoriously frank TV personality also pointed out that he did not want to pressure Zayn Malik into staying.

At the time of his departure, the so-called “bad boy” of One Direction has been involved in drug-related issues, as well as rumors that he has been cheating on his long-time girlfriend, Perrie Edwards.

“At the same time I don’t want to push him too much because he’s 22 and I could see he was a bit stressed and needed some time off,” Simon Cowell said.
