X-Men: Apocalypse Movie Casting News Update: X-Men: Apocalypse is moving closer to production and writer Simon Kinberg has been spilling secrets. Kinberg is returning to the X-Men franchise for the first time since the film Days of Future Past.
According to Entertainment Weekly, X-Men Apocalypse will see the return of Rose Byrne’s CIA Agent Moira MacTaggert. MacTaggert was Professor X’s love interest in 2011’s First Class.
“She’s a significant character in the movie. We ended First Class with Charles having wiped portions of her memory of her experience with the X-Men. They are, essentially, strangers to her when she meets them,” Simon Kinberg told Entertainment Weekly.
Kinberg says MacTaggert and Professor Xavier are still going strong.
“It’s certainly a rich relationship that we started to dig into in First Class, and would like to mine more in this one,” Kinberg said.
According to Digital Spy , X-Men Apocalypse is set about twenty years after the events of “First Class.”
“This movie is the completion of the first arcs of Charles, Eric, Raven, and Hank, who are essentially our main characters. They’re such young actors and young characters, so there’s a lot more story to tell. But as a first phase of their lives, there is this feeling of closure by the end of the movie,” Kinberg told EW.
The writer also teased that there just might be an “X Men” versus “Fantastic Four” film that might land sometime in 2018.
“Yt’s not out of the realm of possibility,” he told Entertainment Weekly: “The reboot of Fan Four really needed to work in and of itself. We were doing something pretty radical with the tone of the movie. If we wanted to find a way to connect them to the X-Men, we could. There’s a lot of precedent from the comics.”
“I love the characters, I love the characters in Fan Four, and I love the new cast. Obviously I love the characters and cast of X-Men. So, hypothetically, the notion of putting them together is really intriguing, and there’s some really fun stuff that the comics have done in the past. So it’s not out of the realm of possibility,” Kinberg told EW.
The Fantastic Four reboot stars Miles Teller as Reed Richards, Kate Mara as Sue Storm, Michael B Jordan as Johnny Storm and Jamie Bell as Ben Grimm. X-Men: Apocalypse” added Game of Thrones’ Sophie Turner as well as Tye Sheridan and Alexandra Shipp to the cast of the new entry in the franchise.
“X-Men: Apocalypse” hits theaters on May 27, 2016.
