After “Sword Art Online” season two ended, many fans began to wonder how long they would have to wait for the third season, given the lengthiness of the “Alicization Arc.”

It looks like the wait may be until 2016, but luckily, fans will get something to satisfy them until then.
After the release of an exclusive trailer, Aniplex USA has revealed the “Sword Art Online” movie announcement trailer with official English subtitles. Fans can check out the trailer below. Currently, there is no official release date for the “Sword Art Online” movie.

Fans in an ANN forum  continue to express excitement for the new “Sword Art Online” movie project.
“Ah man I’m really looking forward to the ‘Sword Art Online’ movie. Sure it will be anime original but there’s so many directions they can go in with it that weren’t tackled in the light novels,” said Catsplay.
Anime News Network  reports that the movie project will be a completely new anime work written by original creator Reki Kawahara. In addition, the film will be directed by Tomohiko Ito, who previously directed the TV anime series and previous anime special. A-1 Pictures will again handle the animation production.
“Sword Art Online” was originally a light novel series by Reki Kawahara. For those who are not familiar with the series, My Anime List describes “Sword Art Online” as follows:
“In the near future, a Virtual Reality Massive Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game (VRMMORPG) called Sword Art Online has been released where players can control their avatars through brain waves using technology called ‘NerveGear’.”
It goes on:
“When players enter the game, they discover they cannot log out, as the game creator is holding them captive. To escape, players must beat the game by defeating each boss on all 100 floors; however, if they die in the game, they die in real life too. Their struggle for survival starts now.”
