“True Detective” Season 2 is coming, here are all the rumors about cast, characters, plots and settings.
The show will be sticking to the anthology format, with new plots and main characters each season.
After months of speculation HBO has finally announced that Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn will serve as the leads in the second season of the network’s hit drama True Detective.
In addition Justin Lin has been confirmed to be directing the first two episodes.
Here’s the press release from HBO : “Cast: Colin Farrell as Ray Velcoro, a compromised detective whose allegiances are torn between his masters in a corrupt police department and the mobster who owns him.
Vince Vaughn as Frank Semyon, a career criminal in danger of losing his empire when his move into legitimate enterprise is upended by the murder of a business partner.” Now that the male leads have been confirmed there are still the female lead rumors, all seven of them, up for the part of the “no nonsense” Californian sheriff named Ani Bezzerides, driven to gambling and alcoholism by her dark past.
According to The Wrap , seven names are being tossed around in contention for the female lead.
Elisabeth Moss and Rachel McAdams were initially on the short list for the role.
Rosario Dawson’s is up for the part, but will be working on Netflix’s Daredevil show soon.
Jessica Biel’s name is also in the hat.
Malin Ackerman from “Trophy Wife” and “Watchmen” is also a decently big name on the list, as is “Thor” star Jaimie Alexander and “Game of Thrones” actress Oona Chaplin, who played Talisa Stark, with Brit Marling (“Another Earth”) and Kelly Reilly (“Flight”) finishing out the latest round of rumors.

“We don’t have any plans to work with one director again.
It would be impossible to do this yearly as we need to be able to do post while we’re still filming, like any other show.
There’s some great guys I’ve consulted, and we’re all confident we can achieve the same consistency.” “The Fast and The Furious” Justin Lin is confirmed to be one of the directors involved with the new season.Deadline reports that Lin is in negotiations to direct at least the first two episodes of Season 2. Creator Nic Pizzolatto has dropped various plot details in a series of interviews; he also said in a June interview that “literally, not a single rumor about casting that has been printed anywhere has any truth to it whatsoever.” The plot focuses on the investigators will be trying to solve the death of Ben Caspar, a 52-year-old man who was killed and dumped on a highway with occult symbols scratched on his chest. Slate reports: “The second season of True Detective will follow the death of Ben Caspar, the corrupt city manager of a fictional California city who’s found brutally murdered amid a potentially groundbreaking transportation deal that would forever change freeway gridlock in the state.
Three law enforcement officers from different cities and branches of the government are tasked with finding out who did it.
They soon discover their investigation has much broader and darker implications than they initially thought.
Caspar’s 52-year-old corpse is found on a lonely stretch of Pacific Coast Highway near Big Sur-satanic symbols etched on his chest.
It turns out he had a penchant for rough sex and may have been involved in the occult.” The Wrap reported that the character Farrell’s is alleged to play “has been damaged by years of turmoil,” the Monterey sheriff dives into “gambling and alcohol” when she’s not on duty and the California Highway Patrol the CHP officer was “put on leave” after he pulled over a lady for drunk driving and let her off after she got him off.
True Detective’s second season will be set in California.
In a podcast with the NPR’s To the Best of Our Knowledge, Pizzolatto said “Not Los Angeles but some of the much lesser-known venues of California, and we’re going to try to capture a certain psychosphere ambiance of the place, much like we did in Season 1.” Variety reported that Lombardo told an audience at the Edinburgh TV Festival, “It’s still dark.
Nic explores the darkness in people’s souls.
It’s not as dark, but it’s not a light ride.
Nic likes looking into the crevices of the soul.” According to reports, Colin Farrell will be the male lead and Vince Vaughn has been rumored to play the villian in this season.
None of these casting rumors have been confirmed by HBO or the shows producers however.
Production is scheduled to begin in September, so there is a chance it will be delayed due to casting, or HBO is deliberately keeping casting secret to build buzz.
