“Mad Max: Fury Road” star Tom Hardy reveals that he wants to play vigilante U.S.

military war veteran-turned-vigilante Frank Castle in “The Punisher.” In an exlusive with Collider , Hardy was asked if there are any comic book adaptations he’d want to star in.

“I want The Punisher” Hardy said.

“I want The Punisher, or Splinter Cell, I want something…I don’t know what I want.

 I’m not big enough to be The Punisher, I’m 5’9″ [Laughs].

… Frank Castle, I would love it.” Ray Stevenson, who portrayed Castle in 2008’s “Punisher: War Zone” was 6’4″; the difference in height, however, wouldn’t be that much of a problem in this day and age of special effects and post-production.

Meanwhile, “The Dark Knight Rises” actor revealed the real reason why he missed out on DC’s “Suicide Squad.” In a separate interview, Hardy told Collider that his next upcoming movie with “Birdman” director Alejandro G.

Inarritu conflicted his schedule with the villain-led film.

“There’s a very practical element as to why I’ve missed out in that foray, which is because Alejandro has overshot by three months in Calgary, so we’ve got to go back out to Patagonia or Alaska to continue shooting ‘The Revenant’ which has turned into a much bigger beast than we thought, but that also looks exceptional.” Not bitter about Warner Bros.

decision to replace him with “Run All Night” actorJoel Kinnaman, he even praised “Suicide Squad” teased a few details about the villain-led film.

is my home studio and I love them so I was really bummed out,” he explained.

“I wanted to work on that and I know the script is really f—–g alley and I also know what’s gonna happen with The Joker and Harley Quinn in that; I won’t give away too much…it’s f——g alley.” “Everybody loves The Joker,” he added.

“Will Smith is a dope guy, but everybody loves The Joker and that’s gonna, I think, be a very important film for fans.” Hardy will be seen next “Mad Max: Fury Road,” arriving in theaters on May 13, 2015.
