“The Vampire Diaries” season six came to a close last week with the departure of series regular Nina Dobrev.
Despite Elena’s body being laid to rest, executive producer Julie Plec assured audiences that there’s still plenty of story to tell.
Following “The Vampire Diaries” season six finale, new spoilers about the leftover story in season seven were revealed.
According to executive producer Caroline Dries, season seven will focus on Enzo and his struggle between his friendship with Damon and his new found “family” with Mama Salvatore.
Dries revealed the information about Enzo (played by Michael Malarkey) in an interview with TV Line .
“He’s eventually going to have to choose a side.
In some ways, he feels drawn to Lily; she turned him and she’s the only real family he has.
But he’s also friends with Damon, so it’s going to create an interesting dilemma, and whichever side he chooses will have serious ramifications,” said Dries.
Losing Nina Dobrev seems very risky considering her character Elena was once the main character of the entire series.
At this point however, centering the story on either Salvatore brother would certainly provide a vehicle for conflict.
Now that it seems there will be a lot of struggling with Lily Salvatore and her family of witch vampires, Damon (played by Ian Somerhalder) seems like a perfect choice to focus on.
Add in the earlier spoiler that Damon would be getting back to his character traits from season one, and there’s likely to be plenty of action.
“The Vampire Diaries” season seven may be a long ways away, but with Enzo’s struggle to be a highlight of the future episodes, fans are sure to adjust to the absence of Elena just fine.
