No matter which couple fans loved and enjoyed the most on “The Vampire Diaries,” there’s no question that they take their “shipping” seriously.
Unfortunately, Dalena fans will now have to accept what actor Ian Somerhalder always insisted would happen.
Recently actress Nina Dobrev announced that after six seasons she would be leaving the series.
After an outcry of disappointed fans, “The Vampire Diaries” executive producer Julie Plec took some time to answer some Twitter questions about the fate of favored couple, Damon and Elena.
In response to some concerned fans about how the ending would be handled, Plec assured them that their break up would be respectful.
“All I can say is wait and watch and see.
I think you’ll find her exit very moving and very respectful of their relationship,” explained Plec.
As for what Plec means by “exit,” there are two theories that have been circulating.
The first is that Elena will take the cure for vampirism, based on the reappearance of the cure in Bonnie’s last trip to prison world and Nina Dobrev’s own statements about Elena’s feelings after witnessing Alaric and Jo’s shotgun wedding.
The other theory is that Elena will simply be killed off.
This however is probably unlikely given Plec’s emphasis on handling her exit with care.
Whatever the future end of Damon and Elena, the one person not surprised by the end of their on-screen relationship is actor Ian Somerhalder.
Over the past few months the actor said on several occasions that he did not believe their relationship would have a happy ending.
While some fans may have written him off initially, now it looks like they all should have believed him.
“The Vampire Diaries” will return from its brief hiatus on Thursday, April 16.
