When the latest crop of hacked celebrity photos was leaked on Friday, those of Anna Kendrick puzzled many.
The actress was fully clothed in all of the pics, raising the question of why they were even included.
As it happens, Kendrick gave a statement to the QMI Agency earlier this month in which she condemned the hackings, offered sympathy to the victims, and expressed gratitude that her own sense of “paranoia” has prevented her from taking nude photos of her own.
Could the release of these photos be some kind of attempt at retaliation by the hacker(s) behind the attacks?
When the third crop of photos in the massive leaking scandal now known as “The Fappening” were released on Friday, 87 of Kendrick were included.
In them, the actress is fully clothed, and appears to be partying.
While the photos were probably meant to be private and their release is definitely a violation, if anything they seem to confirm Kendrick’s earlier assertion that there are no nude photos of her to be leaked.
The Independent points out that after the first wave of celebrity nudes was released, Kendrick stated: “It certainly makes me sad for the girls who were affected, and bummed out that people won’t be able to do that stuff, because it’s a part of like and if you want to you should be able.” She continued, “I feel really grateful for my own sense of paranoia and really sad for people who are just trying to live their life like a normal person.
And I hope that guy goes to jail.” Around the same time that she gave this statement, Kendrick Tweeted a screenshot of a text conversation she had with her brother on the subject.
In it he wrote, “I have never been happier to see your name not on a list,” referring to the “master list” that surfaced on Reddit, which named over 100 celebrities of whom nude photos had allegedly been hacked.
The actress wrote in response, “Don’t worry bro, it would just be photos of food and other people’s dogs anyway.”
