After battling a tough fight against alcoholism, which almost caused him his life, Sum 41 singer Deryck Whibley is slated to appear at the upcoming Alternative Press Music Awards this July to surprise their fans with a possible tour and a new album for the band.
As previously revealed by Alternative Press, Sum 41 is already booked to play at the upcoming music awards night, which will be the first appearance of the singer following the health condition the frontman faced.
Whibley expressed his excitement for the performance in the interview, as they are ready to headline the APMAs.
“Playing live is the heart and soul for us,” Whibley said.
“It’s our chance to connect face to face with our fans, and I’m glad that we get to share our first experience back onstage again at the APMAs.
It’s also exciting to be a part of the event to support the first magazine to put our ugly mugs on the cover in America!” With his comeback and the band’s intact lineup, fans of Sum 41 are expecting more from the band as they speculate new album releases and possibly tours to come this year and the next.
Meanwhile in a report by Rolling Stone , the 35-year-old singer is proud to say that his alcohol free and has thanked Iggy Pop, who he bonded with during his recovery time and helped him recover from his addiction.
“Now I’m sober, I don’t get calls from certain people that I used to…
the drinking friends,” Whibley said.
“Now I’m the bum-out to them.
Who wants to invite the sober guy to the party? Y’know who has been incredibly supportive? Iggy Pop.
He had a lot of great advice; he’s been through it all.
We’ve been friends for years.” As he is on his way to a successful recovery, fans are staying positive that they would hear a new Sum 41 album really soon.
