Scarlett Johansson Offers Update On 'Ghost In The Shell' Live Ction Movie; New Release Date Announced

Scarlett Johansson gives an update on the “Ghost In The Shell” live action movie.
In an interview with Collider , the “Lucy” star revealed that principal photography will commence next year.

“It will be shooting the beginning of next year,” she said. “So I think we start production January or February and it’s me and Rupert [Sanders]; and that’s all I know.”
“Snow White and the Huntsman” director Rupert Sanders will be helming the upcoming adaptation.
While this is good news for some, loyal followers of the original franchise have signed a petition demanding a recast of the role.
“The industry is already unfriendly to Asian actors without roles in major films being changed to exclude them. One recent survey found that in 2013, Asian characters made up only 4.4% of speaking roles in top-grossing Hollywood films,” reads the petition, published by Jewish Business News .
“Pacific Rim’s” Rinko Kikuchi has been voted by netizens to play the main character.
Flicksided  claims that the “Lucy” actress didn’t want to appear in the “Ghost In The Shell” live-action movie in the beginning, but was offered a hetfy $10 million to play the lead role. Before Johansson bagged the role, “Wolf of Wall Street” actress Margot Robbie reached negotiations with Dreamworks to play the main character.

“Ghost In The Shell” was originally published as a manga comic in the pages of Japan’s Young Magazine. Visionary director Mamoru Oshii adapted the story into an animated feature in 1995.
The series has since expanded into a television series, video games and several original video animations. The latest installment to the franchise is an animated feature titled, “Ghost In The Shell: The New Movie.”
Dreamworks’ “Ghost In The Shell” live-action movie arrives in theaters on March 21, 2017.
