Samsung Galaxy S4 Active vs.
Sony Xperia Z1: Specs of the Samsung Galaxy S4 Active and the Sony Xperia Z1 are pitted in this review.
Both these units are Android powered and have been considered well-designed and compare the devices in terms of display, design and camera features.
DISPLAY & DESIGN The Samsung Galaxy S4 Active and the Sony Xperia Z1 both have a 5-inch TFT display.
The screen’s are both dust and water resistant and bears a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels and a pixel density of 441 ppi.
The Sony Xperia Z1, however, edges out the S4 Active in that its display is triluminous, thus allowing you to see what’s being shown indoors and outdoors.
In tems of weight the Samsung Galaxy S4 Active is 153 grams heavy and its dimensions are 139 x 71 x 9.1 mm.
The Sony Xperia Z1, on the other hand, weighs a bit heavier at 170 grams and its dimensions are 144 x 74 x 8.5 mm.
PERFORMANCE Under the hood, the Samsung Galaxy S4 Active has a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 chipset that clocks in at 1.9GHz and powered with 2GB of RAM.
Out of the box it has an Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean OS but it can be upgraded to Android 4.4 KitKat.
Internal storage for the S4 Active is at 16GB but its expandable up to 64GB.
The Sony Xperia Z1, on the other hand, has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor under the hood that clocks in at 2.2 GHz and also powered with 2 GB of RAM.
Similar with the Samsung Galaxy S4 Active, the unit comes with Android 4.4.2 KitKat out of the box and bears the same 64GB of internal storage.
CAMERA In terms of camera features, the Samsung Galaxy S4 Active has an 8MP camera and a 3264 x 2448 pixel resolution.
The Sony Xperia Z1, on the other hand, has a 20.7MP camera – one of the highest in the business – with an intense resolution of 5248 x 3936 pixels.
Its camera can also take 1080P videos at 30 fps.
A quick look at shopping sites suggest that the difference in price for the two handsets is minimal (Note: Pricing varies per region) and the units are almost on equal footing.
However, the Sony Xperia Z1 does have a more powerful processor and a much higher spec for its camera.
