Samsung Galaxy S2 Plus update that was rolled out recently, when the S2 handset has been updated from Ice Cream Sandwich to Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean is reported to be its last official OTA update by Samsung.
But a recent article from Android Origin shows that S2, the predecessor of the Samsung Galaxy S2 Plus, can actually enjoy an Android 4.3 ROM upgrade.
Although the site warns that it is only for the Samsung Galaxy S2 (GT-19100) and specifically for international versions of the device, it may not be far-fetched that there could be an Android 4.3 ROM for the device.
While waiting, however, and knowing that Android 4.2.2 is the last for Samsung Galaxy S2 Plus, don’t go rushing to ditch the Samsung Galaxy S2 for its successor, the Samsung Galaxy S3 just yet.
Despite the fact that Samsung Galaxy S2 Plus is way older than the new crop of Android-based phones, it’s features and specs has stood the test of time and even with the recent and probably final update can still compete against its successor, the Samsung Galaxy S3.
The Samsung Galaxy S3, which came out last year, was an instant best seller and is expected to get the most recently available Android OS.
However, the S2 Plus need not be discounted in terms of speed, quality and hardware specs.
It’s a handset that has stood the test of time in terms of quality.
The Samsung Galaxy S2 Plus was recently upgraded from Ice Cream Sandwich to Android Jelly Bean and though its camera may have lower resolution than the newer S3, you won’t see the difference until you begin to make video calls, according to Sidhtech.
In the U.S., the Snapdragon dual core processor on the Samsung Galaxy S3 and the Samsung Galaxy S2 comes with dual core.
If you’re the owner of both devices, the Samsung Galaxy S3 is quicker of the two.
According to Sidhtech blog, however, the Samsung Galaxy S2 Plus on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean will make it faster because of Project Butter.
Google Project Butter is an initiative for the Android mobile operating system to make OS quicker and more responsive for users, according to Webopedia.
The results of Project Butter initially arrived at Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and have more enhancements in Android 4.2.2 The latter is the OS available for the Samsung Galaxy S2 Plus.
Samsung Galaxy S2 is available in 16GB, 32GB and 64GB.
You can also boost it up with another 32GB.
The Samsung Galaxy S3 offers S Voice, Smart Stay and Smart Call.
These features, however, will still be available with Samsung Galaxy S2 Plus once the device is updated.
According to Sidhtech blog, if you’ve come at the end of your contract, considering the Samsung Galaxy S3 is a good option.
However, there is still a lot left in the Samsung Galaxy S2 Plus.
The device though basically declared obsolete by its manufacturer, is still a keeper in terms of its features.
