Ryan Gosling is reportedly going to be part of the “Blade Runner 2” cast.
If things push through, he will be joining returning cast member Harrison Ford in the science fiction classic.
According to the production company Alcon Entertainment , Gosling is currently in talks to be the co-star for the sequel “Blade Runner 2” alongside Ford, who will be reprising his role as Rick Deckard, a “blade runner” or replicant hunter. “Gladiator” director Ridley Scott, who helmed the original “Blade Runner” which came out in 1982, will still be on board as executive producer on this sequel.
But he has turned over the directorial duties of this movie to Denis Villeneuve. Villeneuve is best known for his 2013 kidnapping drama “Prisoners,” starring Hugh Jackman and Jake Gyllenhaal.
The script has been penned by Michael Green and Hampton Fancher.
In a recent interview with M TV News , Scott shared that he has already sent the script over to Harrison Ford, and the actor was impressed.
“I sent him this script and he said it’s the best thing he’s ever read,” the director revealed.
“It’s very relevant to what happened in the first one.” The story of “Blade Runner 2” takes place 30 years after the original film’s events.
“Blade Runner” is a neo-noir dystopian science fiction movie, which was based on “Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep” by Philip K.
The original film was set in Los Angeles in 2019, where the earth is populated by genetically engineered “replicants” who were externally identical to human beings.
Replicants are tasked to perform dangerous or other menial work in off-world colonies.
Their return to earth is illegal, and those who do are hunted down by “Blade Runners.” According to Scott, the story of “Blade Runner 2” is made up of three acts.
Harrison Ford’s character actually comes in during the third segment.
And now that Ryan Gosling is reportedly in negotiations for the movie, there are speculations that he may actually be the star of the film.
