Referee Joe Cortez Says Manny Pacquiao Vs. Floyd Mayweather ‘Too Lopsided’ To Have A Rematch; Tells Fans To Move On

Since the “Fight of the Century” concluded, fans are already asking for a rematch between Manny Pacquiao Vs.

Floyd Mayweather as majority of them are not satisfied with the result.

However, referee Joe Cortez says that needs to stop.

Joe Cortez has shared the ring with Pacquiao for three times in his career.

But according to the referee, Pacquiao does not have that blinding quickness and phenomenal power to compete at a high level anymore.

“He’s 36 years old but Manny Pacquiao has been in some difficult fights in his career and therefore, it’s causing him not to be as sharp as he used to be five years ago,” Cortez told  On the Ropes Boxing .

Nevertheless, he is pleased with the effort Pacquiao gave in trying to blemish Floyd Mayweather’s perfect record.

“Manny Pacquiao tried the best he could,” he said.

“I think that Pacquiao really wanted to win this fight so bad.” With that said, he implied that it does not take a genius to realize that both fighters are just not on par with each other; aside from the fact that the recent controversies are not helping with the cause at all.

“Floyd Mayweather has one more fight on his contract with Showtime for the $200-million deal that he has.

He’s got one fight to go, he will probably fight in September and Pacquiao getting the surgery on his shoulder, he will not be ready to fight for close to another year again.

Floyd Mayweather will be retired by then,” said Cortez.

“[Fans] got what they wanted to see, the two fighters fought each other but if they were to have a rematch again, I don’t think there’s a reason for a rematch, it was not even close.

They gotta move on,” he added.
