Showtime’s “Penny Dreadful” will be back soon to offer more doses of supernatural creatures on TV.
But sometimes it is even more interesting to watch those who are human react to the creatures.
Especially if the reaction is a violent one.
In preparation for the upcoming May 3 premiere, Showtime began streaming another character featurette.
Danny Sapani, who plays the character of Sembene, sat down to discuss his character’s upcoming bonding time with Ethan Chandler (played by actor Josh Hartnett).
Fans can watch the new featurette below.
“Sembene and Ethan become much closer.
What they both have in common is that they’re both soldiers.
So there’s an opportunity for them to both explore deeper things,” explained Sapani.
“His secret is he’s done things that he’s not proud of.
What he’s trying to do in this story is atone for those things.” As to what things Sembene has to atone for, it is likely that it has something to do with “hunting.” Ethan Chandler briefly mentions the word in an excerpt from a scene in the featurette.
“Hunting” for what is the question the scene begs, but fans will have to wait until “Penny Dreadful” season two for more information on what exactly Sembene used to hunt.
Sembene’s bonding with Ethan however seems necessary, considering Ethan is also dealing with the beast within and the things he’s done because of that beast.
Josh Hartnett mentioned in his own trailer that he fears for his “loved ones,” so perhaps “Penny Dreadful” season two will largely be about the effects that the supernatural have on those who are normal.
For those who are not familiar with the series, Showtime describes the series as follows: “PENNY DREADFUL is a psychological thriller filled with dark mystery and suspense, where personal demons from the past can be stronger than vampires, evil spirits and immortal beasts.”
