Nyjah Huston wins the first international SLS Nike SB Pro Open in Barcelonia, Spain.
Top skaters from all over the world were in attendance at the sold-out Skate Agora BDN plaza, but the field narrowed to a faceoff between Paul “P-Rod” Rodriguez and Huston.
Many presumed that Rodriguez would finish in 1st place after managing a difficult crooked grind to nollie heelflip on a handrail, a trick that earned the highest score of the competition at 9.5 points.
At this point, Huston had already missed two out of five Best Trick attempts, which put him in a tough spot where he must score a 9 Club in order to win.
Huston landed a backside 270 kickflip to lipslide down a stairset handrail that scored 9.3 points, securing the win on his fifth and final attempt.
Huston’s statement below appears via Benzinga : “I always tend to put myself in the most challenging situations when it comes to winning Street League finals,” he said.
“This was one of the gnarliest, most nerve racking situations I’ve ever been in, and was especially tough since it came down to last try after I missed a few times.
I’m really stoked it worked out in the end – great way to start off the season.” On winning the first ever Street League Skateboarding Nike SB Pro Open outside the States: “It’s a little more challenging to skate outdoors compared to stadiums, but Barcelona is just an awesome place to have a contest.” Final results: 1.
