The NBA Trade Rumors still have their longest resident in Rajon Rondo.
While it seems like there’s no longer any chance that he might get traded and leave the Celtics in free agency, he could be bound for the Knicks in a panic trade!
This was already suggested in Grantland’s NBA Preview with Bill Simmons and Jalen Rose.
Simmons, also known as the The Sports Guy-spoke through his fictional character, Clairvoyant Bill.
“Clairvoyant Bill thinks Rondo gets traded to the Knicks the next four months.
And here’s the trade.
Rondo, Gerald Wallace to the Knicks, Amare’s expiring, Iman Shumpert, 2018 first-rounder and a pick swap that will be protected at some point within the next five years for the Celtics and Knicks pick.” This would bring the era of two All-stars in New York.
“I actually like the thought of Rondo and Carmelo together, I don’t know why I think he would get him the ball in all the right spots.
I think that would work.” The Knicks have endured the Amare Stoudemire mistake for so long. Many are still on the fence about the Carmelo Anthony trade and all the assets they flipped for him.
But the trade for Rondo would be the most reasonable and may result in New York being a..wait for it..a contender again.
Will Boston bite? There are no assets here except cap relief, that may translate into nothing if they don’t get a franchise player in the summer of 2015.
However, Basketball Insiders gives the Celtics a reality check: “Come this time next year the Celtics will feel a lot more pressure to trade Rondo unless they want to risk losing him without getting anything in return during the offseason.” Rondo’s trade value is getting lower by the minute and Danny Ainge may have to settle for crumbs rather than nothing.
For the Knicks, they are still wary of rivals that may take Rondo away from them, specifically the Houston Rockets.
