MTV EMAs 2015: Priyanka Chopra, the singer and actress who is probably best known for her role in Quantico, was named the winner of the 2015 MTV EMAs Best India Act. Chopra beat Monica Dogra, Indus Creed, The Ska Vengers and Your Chin. The awards night will take place at the Mediolanum Forum in Milan on October 26. It will be hosted by singer Ed Sheeran and model Ruby Rose. Pharrell Williams, Ed Sheeran and Rudimental, Ellie Goulding, Jason Derulo, Martin Garrix, Afrojack, Tori Kelly, James Bay, among other stars, will perform.
“All the nominees in the Best India Act category were highly accomplished and well-deserving, however, we are elated to announce Priyanka Chopra as the winner of this category” Ferzad Palia, EVP and Head, English Entertainment Channel, Viacom18, said in a statement.
“Priyanka Chopra today has a huge fan base both, national and international. Her road to success and fame has been filled with numerous milestones and we are proud that she has won this category at the Europe Music Awards 2015, now let’s help her get the Worldwide Act trophy home. Let’s get Voting.”
Priyanka, 33, will compete in the Best Worldwide Act: Africa/India Act category against the Best Africa Act, Diamond Platinumz.
Chopra is one of the highest paid Bollywood actresses. Chopra won the 2008 Best Actress award at the National Film Awards in India for the film “Fashion,” where she played an aspiring model. She was nominated for Best Female Artist, Best Song and Best Video for In My City at the World Music Awards in 2012.
Chopra’s her first single, “In My City,” which was released in 2012, sold over 130,000 copies in its first week, was certified triple platinum and was picked as the theme of NFL’s Sunday night football in 2012-13 seasons.
On Quantico, Priyanka Chopra plays Alex Parrish, a Jason Bourne-style action hero. She has appeared in over four dozen movies including 2014’s Mary Kom, in which she played the title role as the Olympic Indian boxer.
