He started the season at Double-A Jacksonville, but after striking out 52 batters and compiling a 4-2 record with a 2.35 ERA in eight starts and one relief appearance, he was promoted to New Orleans.
In four starts since, he was 3-0 with a 2.74 ERA.
Batters were hitting .236 against him across both levels, according to MLB.com.
“When you get to Triple-A and you have success there, that’s a pretty good indicator of where you’re at,” Marlins manager Mike Redmond said.
“I only got a short glimpse of him in Spring Training, but you can tell that he’s special.” Miami’s 2012 first-round draft selection will be the attention for the night, but the hope is that Giancarlo Stanton returns to the lineup after leaving last night’s game with an injured hand.
Despite dealing with injuries in his young career, he hasn’t missed a game this season.
“We need this guy for the long haul,” manager Mike Redmond told ESPN.com.
“He wanted to stay in, but I’m thinking about tomorrow and the next day.” Zack Wheeler (2-7, 4.38 ERA) will take the mound Thursday looking to snap out of a funk.
In his last start, he allowed four runs in five innings.
“It’s not fun,” Wheeler said.
“I’m leaving it up a little bit, and the sinker’s not working for me.”
