KCON Confirms GFRIEND for New York Leg, Girl Group To Perform Best Hits & 'The Awakening' Title Track

  KCON confirms adding GFRIEND to their lineup of artist for their New York leg. GFRIEND is the third group confirmed by KCON to join the NY convention, along with TWICE and CNBLUE. This will be GFRIEND’s second time in joining KCON. The girl group attended KCON in Los Angeles, CA in 2016. GFRIEND is expected to perform their previous hits “Mermaid”, “Navillera”, and “Gone with the Wind” at the New York KCON. The girls are also expected to perform “The Awakening’s” title track “Fingertip”. According to Koreaboo , the New York KCON will be on June 23 and 24 at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey where BTS recently held their “Wings Tour”. East Coast K-pop fans will be in for a treat as GFRIEND is expected to perform their best hits.
KCON kicked off their initial leg in Mexico City on March 17. They have also added Australia to their list and are set to start the convention in September for the Aussie K-pop fans. KCON is an annual [and global] convention that displays Korea’s pop music, and as well as their culture. It started in 2012 as Koreaboo’s idea. Koreaboo then made CJ E&M Entertainment their partner. “Through KCON, we will lead the efforts in nurturing the ‘K-life style’ as a future growth engine,” said Shin Hyung Kwan, CJ E&M Entertainment’s music content division head. During its 5 year run, KCON has amassed 350,000 K-pop fans in their conventions. KCON has already spread their influence holding their conventions in the United States, Japan, France, and even in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. KCON has just recently expanded into Mexico City and Australia. The Mexico City KCON saw the performances of BTS and EXID. Red Velvet also attended the convention and performed their hits “Ice Cream”, “Dumb Dumb”, and “Russian Roulette”. As previously reported , KCON’s next leg will be in Japan on May 19-21. The KCON in LA will be held at the Los Angeles Convention Center on Aug. 18-20.
