KBS prepares to premiere flowerboy period drama ‘Hwarang’ in December

“Hwarang” is ready for its premiere in the couple of two weeks. To promote the drama, KBS has published several teaser trailer and images. According to Seoul Daily News, KBS has released the second teaser of the “Hwarang” on Nov. 29. The teaser begins with the thundering drum and Seong Dong-Il commanding voice, followed by the letter written 세상을 바꿀. 므ㅏ 돼므ㅓ 청춘들이 온다 (The beautiful worlds are changing, beautiful youths are coming). Later on, the teaser shows the training session of the flowering knights aka Hwarang. There is also some elements of comedy in the teaser. All male cast members appear in the teaser from Park Seo-Joon, Choi Min-Ho, Do Ji-Han, Jo Yoon-Woo, Park Hyung-Sik and Kim Tae-Hyung and Go-Ara as the lead female cast member.

“Hwarang” will be the feast for viewers eye, due to the abundance of flower boy in the drama. The term Hwarang itself (화랑) or in Chinese character written as 花郞, which means “flowering knights.” The flowering knights are a group of young male noblemen in the Silla dynasty which ruled most of ancient Korea since the 5 BC to 935 AD. The Hwarang unit was established from young aristocrats and nobles who were recruited to train in martial arts. Shooting for the drama has finished last September since its first commenced in March. “Hwarang” follows the story of five members of Hwarang and their activity. The youngest one is Sung-Rang, played by Kim, who is also the member of the boy group BTS. Kim has been highlighted in one official KBS release, which describes him as the youngest warrior with a bright pair of eyes and warm attitude. “Hwarang” is set to become the new Monday and Tuesday drama from KBS. It will premiere Dec. 19 to take over “Sweet Stranger and Me” which will air its final episode on Dec. 13. International viewers can watch the drama with English subtitle on KBS World TV a day later.
