Jessica Jones Marvel TV Series Casting News: The upcoming Marvel TV series, AKA Jessica Jones, promises to be darker fair than the usual stuff we see coming out of Marvel.

The show will be set in New York City’s historically dangerous Hell’s Kitchen.

Krysten Ritter, who played Jesse Pinkman’s ill-fated girlfriend on AMC’s now-classic crime show Breaking Bad, is playing the lead.

Mike Colter from “The Good Wife” was cast as Like Cage on the upcoming series “AKA Jessica Jones.”  “AKA Jessica Jones” is one of four series that will debut on Netflix that centers Marvel heroes.

Netflix committed to at least four 13-episode series that will start streaming in 2015.

The first Netflix Marvel series will be “Daredevil,” followed by “Jessica Jones.” Netflix’s partnership with Marvel hopes to bring a new aesthetic to the Marvel Cinematic Universe by focusing on street-level heroes.

The show promises to be different from other Marvel TV Shows like Agents of S.H.E.I.L.D.

and Agent Carter.  According to Empire magazine the Daredevil series will be different from the 2003 movie adaptation of the comic book property.

“The [‘Daredevil’] series will not be afraid to go darker than the film did.

What we love about this particular set of heroes [from Hell’s Kitchen] is that they’re a little more down to Earth.

Costume wise and also in that these are gritty crime stories, more in the streets than in the clouds,” Netflix CCO Ted Sarando told Empire Magazine The heroes in the Netflix series Jessica Jones live in New York City’s Hell’s Kitchen section.

Marvel CEO Joe Quesada said the series will have “gritty crime stories [that are] more in the streets than in the clouds.” Marvel approached screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg to write and executive produce for Jessica Jones.

Jessica Jones will be the next series after Daredevil, and being run by Melissa Rosenberg.

Jessica Jones is based on the Alias comic by Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Baydos.

Jessica Campbell Jones Cage made her first appearance in the series Alias.

Jones is a former superhero who suffers from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

She opens a detective agency called Alias Private Investigations.

The embittered former superheroine used the aliases Jewel, Knightress, and Power Woman.

Former model Krysten Ritter appeared in the films What Happens in Vegas and 27 Dresses in 2008, Confessions of a Shopaholic in 2009.

Ritter had a recurring roles in the television series Gilmore Girls as Rory Gilmore’s college friend, who has a creepy boyfriend, called “boyfriend,” who tries to keep his past crush on the young Girlmore a secret from his new girlfriend.

 Ritter also starred on Veronica Mars, and ‘Til Death.

She was featured in the episode “Valley Girls” from The CW series Gossip Girl, and in the second season of AMC’s Breaking Bad.

In 2010, she appeared in the romantic comedy She’s Out of My League and the television series Gravity.
