Janis Joplin Biopic To Be Played By Amy Adams, Filming Starts In 2015


Man of Steel’s Amy Adams’ is playing Janis Joplin in a biopic, Fox 23 News.

This weekend the reports confirmed that filming starts in 2015 with Adams taking on the role.

The movie which will be directed by “Dallas Buyers Club” director Jean-Marc Vallee, has a working title called Janis Joplin: Get It While You Can, the report stated.

As early as 2010, the contract has been negotiated with Adams to appear in the film.

Adams was reportedly tapped to play the part, according to Deadline because she is not only a talented actress but a singer as well.

Janis Joplin was a popular musician in the late 1960s and first was known as the lead singer of the pyschedelic acid rock band Big Brother and the Holding Company and then moved on as a solo artist.

She was known as “The Queen of Psychedelic Soul” and ranked 46 as one of the e 100 Greatest Artists of All Time in 2004,   by Rolling Stone.

Joplin was one of the artists that opened the music rock industry to women.

She died at the age of 27 of drug overdose in 1970.

Singers Pink and Stevie Nicks considered Joplin as an idol and influenced their music styles.

Adams meanwhile who we have seen her singing ability in ‘Enchanted’ and ‘The Muppets’ have been earlier quoted in an interview about her desire to play Joplin.

Vogue quoted Adams as saying this in regards to Joplin, ” that if given the opportunity to get coffee with anyone from the past, it’d be with Janis Joplin, but “it probably wouldn’t be coffee.” Several attempts have been made to make a film about Joplin.

One was called ‘Piece of my Heart” which was supposed to star Renee Zellweger and Brittany Murphy.
