Highlight Rebranding: Former BEAST Members Reveal The Truth Behind The Name Change

Boy group Highlight, formerly known as BEAST, recently spilled the beans behind their new group’s name during a broadcast of MBC’s “My Little Television” on March 19. The boys also shared some interesting facts about their new life under the new name. Yoon Doojoon, Lee Gikwang, Yang Yoseob, Yong Junhyung and Son Dongwoon announced their group’s new name last month after leaving Cube Entertainment in 2016. Recently, it was revealed that the name Highlight was originally introduced by Son Dongwoon. According to Soompi , Son Dongwoon simply chose the new name because BEAST’s last album was titled “Highlight”. After he had the flash of epiphany, Son Dongwoon quickly asked his fellows about his thought and sure enough, the boys were up to the idea.
The boys also came up with different names before deciding to go with Highlight. Yang Yoseob suggested the name With Us, while Yoon Doojon though it would be fantastic if they named the group Around Us. However, they decided that Dongwoon’s idea was better because Highlight seems to be meaningful since it was the title of their last album that marked the end of their journey as BEAST. According to Billboard , Highlight is not the only K-Pop group that has continued following the conclusion of their contract. Previously, K-Pop groups like Brown Eyed Girls, Shinhwa, G.O.D, and SechsKies have lost legal battles to retain their original names. Since debuted as BEAST, the boys have gained worldwide recognition for their upbeat dance tracks as well as their ballads. Highlight released their debut single “It’s Still Beautiful” on March 13, ahead of their upcoming debut EP “Can You Feel It?” that releases on March 20. “It’s Still Beautiful” is a piano ballad reflecting on somebody’s past and their turning point. The group has released some promotional clips for their upcoming album, including the teaser of their lead track “Plz Don’t be Sad”, an upbeat dance track that would reclaim BEAST’s success under Highlight.  Watch Highlight’s new MV “Plz Don’t be Sad” below!
