Gwyneth Paltrow dropped some huge bombshells in an interview. Aside from seemingly slamming “Iron Man” co-star Robert Downey Jr, she also said she might not be coming back as Pepper Potts.
In an interview with Variety , the Oscar-winning actress pointed out how unfair Hollywood has been to actresses. She even cited Downey in her critique.
“Look, nobody is worth the money that Robert Downey Jr. is worth,” she said. “But if I told you the disparity, you would probably be surprised.”
“It can be frustrating,” she added about the salary disparity of actors versus actresses in Hollywood. “It can be painful.
But it seemed Gwyneth Paltrow’s rant was not an attack on her co-star and friend, Robert Downey Jr. The “Iron Man” actress apparently was fed up with Hollywood’s unfair salary gap between men and women.
“Your salary is a way to quantify what you’re worth,” she pointed out as quoted by Us Weekly . “If men are being paid a lot more for doing the same thing, it feels s-ty.”
Apart from the unfair salary, the actress also spoke about ageism in Hollywood, where many young stars are oftentimes partnered with older actors. According to the “Iron Man” actress, she won’t be surprised if she won’t be able to come back and be Pepper Potts.
“I’d like to,” the Oscar-winning actress said about being Pepper Potts again as quoted by The Guardian . “But they might swap me out for an 18-year-old Pepper Potts or something.”
Paltrow is not alone in the fight against Hollywood sexism and ageism. As reported by The Wrap , Maggie Gyllenhaal, Patricia Arquette, Cate Blanchett and Helen Hunt were also some of those who have spoken against it.
There’s no word yet how Robert Downey Jr. reacted to Gwyneth Paltrow’s recent statement about Hollywood inequality. The “Avengers” co-stars were last seen together during a beach reunion in August.
