“Grey’s Anatomy” is currently on hiatus after losing one of its most important characters, but is Patrick Dempsey ready to return to the world of television as someone other than Derek Shepherd?

According to EW , Dempsey is currently shopping for a primetime television role for a premiere as early as this fall, which would mean he’d return alongside “Grey’s Anatomy” season 12.

“It’s very normal for an actor who has been on a show for a long time to take meetings, to get reacquainted with other studios and network execs,” said a studio exec.

“It’s just what you do.

You never know when that dream project is gonna fall in your lap.” But is it too late to sign up for a show for the fall? “Not too late at all,” said another casting exec.

“I can definitely see him ending up on something in the fall.” Similar to Katherine Heigl, Dempsey’s alleged on-set drama during “Grey’s Anatomy” could put a damper in his search.

Meanwhile, spoilers have surfaced regarding “Grey’s Anatomy” season 12, in particular Jackson and April.

“We haven’t actually broken up,” revealed actress Sarah Drew.

“We’re left on the precipice.

He’s given me an ultimatum that gives us room to figure out what’s going to happen next season.

I think this is the first of many conversations.

I don’t see it as a total breakup, I see it as they’re definitely in a really, really rough situation.” According to Drew, she cannot envision April without Jackson on “Grey’s Anatomy,” so hopefully her spoilers turn out to be true.

“They fought so hard for each other,” said Drew.

“Even after they got married, they fought so hard for each other as a couple as they were navigating coming from two very different backgrounds and two different world views.

The way that they supported and cared for one another through the death of their son, I think that that was pretty epic.

It’s all pretty epic.

I can’t imagine her being OK with letting go of him.

I hope that we get to see them fighting for each other.

I hope that’s what next season brings us.”
