“Gotham” showrunner Bruno Heller revealed spoilers for the upcoming season 2 of Batman origins series.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter , Heller shared that Gotham season 2 will focus on the original story of Joker.
“We’re going to find out how the hell Jerome, the proto-Joker we met earlier in this season, connects with the Joker as people known him,” the showrunner revealed.
“That’s the big focus of the beginning of the second season.” “We’re going to tell the story of how the Joker came to be,” Heller added.
“That’s teaser enough, I think.” Also to be expected for Gotham season 2 is the story of Edward Nygma and how he transforms into the villain known as The Riddler.
Of course, the story of Oswald (Robin Lord Taylor) will be explored, and his newfound status as king of Gotham’s underworld.
It will be recalled that in the season finale of Gotham, Butch gave Oswald the chance to kill Fish Mooney (Jada Pinkett Smith), which catalyzed his ascension to power over Gotham’s crime world.
Meanwhile, Falcone (John Doman) decided to retire in Florida instead of cementing his legacy as a crime boss.
Plenty of fans were surprised at these unexpected turn of events and Heller explained that it’s all part of telling a good story.
“When you’re telling a story that everyone knows all the characters and where they’re going, you have to surprise people,” he said.
“We knew the season was the story of Penguin’s rise to power, so that was always there,” Heller shared.
“But how we got there was up in the air as we were writing it.” “So much of [the mythology] is laid out before you because of the future that everyone is aware of, but there are many things where, to keep a sense of life and things happening without the knowledge of history, we’d just tell the story and see how things unfold,” he concluded.
