Some may have thought the craze for creepy animatronics was over, but other fans scoured each game looking for hints that “Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza” would someday return for one final scare.
Hopefully, it’s not just an announcement about the movie.
“Five Nights at Freddy’s” creator Scott Cawthon sent his many fans into a frenzy when he revealed a blank teaser on his official website.
That is to say, the image that once caused fans to think “Five Nights at Freddy’s 3” was the last installment in the series has changed to an empty image, the hat once present, removed.
Many gamers in the community on Kotaku have come to Cawthon’s defense against those who are shocked at how popular the “Five Nights” series has become.
“I’m still amazed at how fast he can crank these games out.
I know they’re relatively small, but they look quite polished, especially considering they were made by one person,” commented Chiral Spiral.
“This guy is great at marketing, but only because he’s also good at game design.
If his games weren’t what they are, an empty picture would just be an empty picture and not the next clue in a series that many people are already invested into,” explained TenorSounds.
As to be expected, many Youtubers tried to decipher what the missing hat could possibly mean.
8-Bit Gaming has offered a pretty comprehensive video that poses possible meanings behind the missing hat.
Perhaps the most interesting theory they suggest is that the hat has been finally sold in the auction mentioned at the end of “Five Nights at Freddy’s 3.” Freddy’s missing hat however could be related to either “Five Nights at Freddy’s 4” or the previously announced film adaptation.
Unfortunately, not much can be deciphered from the missing hat without further evidence.
Hopefully, Scott Cawthon will release a more obvious breadcrumb in the future to clue fans in on what his next project will be.
