Fast & Furious 8 release date: Vin Diesel confirmed that “Furious 8″ will hit theaters April 14, 2017 at Universal’s CinemaCon panel in Las Vegas on Thursday.
“It means a lot to me to get your blessing,” Diesel told the audience back to two years ago when, on the same stage at Caesars Palace, Diesel and Fast & Furious star Paul Walker died in a 2013 car crash.
After Walker’s death, it looked like Universal would cancel production on “Fast and Furious 7,” but special effects technicians and stunt doubles finished the film in what distribution chief Nick Carpou called “a cathartic experience for fans of Walker.” “Furious 7″ earned $1.15 billion at the worldwide box office.
It is number on the list of highest-grossing films of all time.
The final moment of “Furious 7” with Paul Walker’s Brian O’Connor driving one way and Vin Diesel’s Dom Toretto driving the other was projected right before Diesel made his announcement.
“We were giddy and excited,” said Diesel.
“You all gave me so much confidence.
There was so much love.
You’ve been so loyal all along.
You helped us create history here.” No director is confirmed yet for the film.
“I always think of these films [as] multiple pictures at a time,” Diesel told Jimmy Kimmel Live earlier this month.
Diesel previously revealed that “Fast & Furious 8” will be set in New York City.
It will feature the return of Kurt Russell’s Mr.
Nobody, who disappeared in Furious 7.
“Kurt Russell came in for this movie, but we really hired him for a story that follows this that takes placei in New York.”
