If you’re just new to k-pop then you should know that it takes more than just knowing a few artists and songs in order to be deemed a true k-pop fan. If you plan on making k-pop something that you can be passionate about, you must first have to get to know k-pop first and what better way to do so than learning the different terms associated with it.

One of the most common of k-pop terms you would hear would probably be ‘maknae.’ Maknae is a Korean word that would refer to the youngest member of a group. Now if you are wondering why it is important to know such a thing and why group members have to be classified, it’s because in Korea and most parts in Asia, age is always given a high regard. In certain groups there will always be someone that is classified as a maknae and he or she would always be the youngest. Most of the time, during a group’s debut, the maknae is always easily distinguishable because of his/her youthful features. But as the group gets older, the maknae’s appearance also catches up with the other group mates. Here are some of the most awesome then and now pictures of famous idol group maknaes. BTS – JUNGKOOK   Known as the ‘Golden Maknae’ of BTS, Jungkook first debuted with his fellow BTS members back in 2013 when he was just 15 years old. Now, he is 19 and it looks like the young singer has already shed most of his boyish features and has turned into quite the handsome man.   EXO – SEHUN This 22-year old with his stunning visuals and modelsque features was first scouted by SM Entertainment when he was 12 years old and the funny thing was that the talent scout had to chase Sehun down the street. He was cast into SM Entertainment in 2008 and four years after, he debuted as a member of the highly successful k-pop group EXO.   GIRLS’ GENERATION – SEOHYUN   Seohyun is the youngest members of the most successful k-pop girl group Girls’ Generation and is now 25 years old. She was first scouted by a talent scout when she was in fifth grade and with her charm and beauty debuted with Girls’ Generation in 2007. GOT7 – YUGYEOM     GOT7’s Yugyeom may be their group’s maknae but he certainly don’t look the part.GOT7’s Yugyeom may be their group’s maknae but he certainly don’t look the part. Surprisingly, people often mistake his fellow GOT7 member BamBam as the maknae of the group. Yugyeom debuted with GOT7 at age 17 and is now 19 years old, Koreaboo reports. 2NE1 – MINZY   2NE1 may have disbanded but during their prime, Minzy is definitely one of the most popular k-pop idols and maknae in the world of k-pop. Showcasing incredible charisma, beauty and talent, Minzy was the epitome of coolness while the ‘cute’ role often played by maknaes went to her fellow 2NE1 member Dara. Minzy debuted at age 15 and is now 22 years old. According to Soompi , Minzy is gearing up for a 2017 solo comeback. SHINEE – TAEMIN   This 23-year old is the youngest member of SHINee.
