On Saturday, one of South Korea’s most popular idols performed one of the most popular songs in history.
EXO’s Chen appeared as a guest artist at pianist Steve Barkatt’s concert in Seoul over the weekend. During the performance, Chen covered John Lennon’s “Imagine,” accompanied by Barakatt.
The performance was dedicated to UNICEF and the organization’s aid to children around the world.
Steve Barakatt is currently serving as a UNICEF ambassador, while Chen and the rest of EXO helped raise over $26,000 USD in donations in 2015 as a portion of T-shirt sales that the group promoted.
In 2015, Barakatt participated in the “IMAGINE for UNICEF” project, where artists from around the world recorded a new version of Lennon’s “Imagine.”
Prior to the performance, Chen and Barakatt expressed their excitement and “honor” at performing together, reported the K-Pop Herald .
Bracket has performed with Korean singers in the past, including a 2010 collaboration with Wheesung.
Although recordings were not allowed at the performance, fans posted audio recordings of the collaboration on YouTube following the concert.
