Solji, the main member of girl group EXID must have a temporary hiatus due to her health. She was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism which force her to leave the music and take a break. The news broke out Tuesday, Dec. 20 as EXID agency Banana Culture Entertainment publish an official press release  to announce her condition. In the release which was written in three languages, Korean, Mandarin and English, the agency inform that Solji has a symptom which led to a further examination. Later on, doctor diagnosed her with a hyperthyroidism.
“Solji has recently showed signs of fever, protrusion of the eyeballs, and etc” the statement read. “She immediately gone through thorough examination. As a result she was diagnosed with ‘Hyperthyroidism.” The 27-year old singer appeared in the news conference today as reported by Seoul Daily News . She assured her fans that she will get better soon and they don’t have to worry too much, because her condition is curable. Hyperthyroidism is a condition when thyroid gland produces an excessive amount of thyroid hormone. This lead to a condition called thyrotoxicosis which has a specific characteristic of irregular heartbeat, high temperature, diarrhea, vomitting and mental agitation. The condition can be treated with antithyroid drugs, diet or radioisotope therapy. Prior to her joining the group, Solji was the vocal trainer for EXID. The agency Banana Culture Entertainment formed EXID as a five-member group in 2011 consist of Yuji, Hani, Haeryeong, Junghwa and LE as the rapper. A year later, Yuji and Haeryeong left the group and Hyelin joined the group. The agency asked Solji who is managed by other agency Yedang Entertainment to join the group as the fifth member, and she agreed. EXID gained huge popularity in August 2014 with their single “Up & Down.” When “Superman Returns” cast member Song Il-Gook used the song to teach his triplets son to bruch their teeth, the song instantly became hits.
