Comic book adaptations had once been limited to the most popular superheroes such as Batman, Superman, and Spider-Man, but with the unprecedented success of “Guardians of the Galaxy,” it’s probably not a stretch to say any interesting comic book now has a chance to make it to the silver screen.
The latest unconventional comic book that will get the feature-length movie is Devil’s Due Entertainment comic book “Drafted.” The comic, which was written by Mark Powers with artwork by Chris Lie, will be developed for the screen by Benderspink Productions.
In addition to the development deal, the comic books themselves will also be rebooted next summer, 2015.
For those who are not apart of the underworld of comic books, Mark Powers had actually mentioned reworking his “Drafted” comic book with Chris Lie back in 2011.
“Chris and I will be bringing back Drafted in the near future,” Powers told Biff Bam Pow .
“I’m in the midst of developing a couple of other creator owned books in tandem with some truly amazing collaborators, and I’m working on The Dresden Files adaptations for Dynamite.” In regards to the movie version of “Drafted,” that deal has perhaps been in the works just as long.
Deadline doesn’t specify a year as to when it was first brought to the table but J.C.
Spink of Benderspink did mention “being in love” with “Drafted” for the past seven years.
Spink also mentioned that the Benderspink company is in general working with comic book companies outside of Marvel and DC because they believe those companies are being underutilized.
According to Coming Soon , the official description of “Drafted” is as follows: “For centuries, humanity has questioned the existence of life on other worlds.
When we finally meet extraterrestrial life, it isn’t exactly as we may have hoped…
An alien race known as The Benefactors has come to help mankind fend off an invasion by another, more malevolent alien race.
Throughout history the things that divide us have taken us to war with each other- now we find ourselves with one thing in common that will unite us like never before: As of today, WE HAVE BEEN DRAFTED.”
