Returning in the scene after releasing their 2012 record “Koi No Yokan,” Deftones is back in the studio creating a new album, which is expected to be released before the year ends.
In a report by Rolling Stone, Deftones frontman Chino Moreno revealed that a new sound may be expected on the upcoming release, as he revealed “out of the box” concepts were carefully thought of by the band.
“It’s definitely a Deftones record, and it has all the elements that make us who we are,” Moreno said.
“We’re not going out there to change anything, other than just thinking outside the box.” Trying to get a different sound for the new album, Deftones still assured fans that the same rock feel that fans longed for in every Deftones record is still expected.
“I feel like we’ve gone into the songs and really dissected them,” he said.
“If something sounded a little straight, we took a left turn and made things a little screwy.
We just tried something completely opposite, not to sabotage it, but to challenge ourselves and try new things that we haven’t done in the past.” Meanwhile, in a different Rolling Stone report , Moreno further stated the progress of their unreleased record.
“Eros,” which was recorded before the passing of bassist Chi Cheng, was claimed to be already done but the release didn’t happen leaving it unreleased until now.
“I get asked about that record a lot,” the vocalist said.
“For a while, I was giving the same answer, ‘No, no, no, no, no, no, no.’ After Chi’s passing, I went back and listened to some of the record and it was a pretty intense experience, to say the least.” He, however, claimed that the LP could possibly released in the future and possibly be part of a new album in the future.
“I think it should be released, but we don’t have any definite plans,” he said.
“There’s some work to do on it.
Deftones have been moving forward in a strong, positive motion, so for us to stop and reflect on something five years ago, I don’t know if we’re ready for that.”
