As a follow up to the band’s 2012 release, Deftones is on their way to finish their new album after the band revealed the progress of their record.
In an interview with Rolling Stone, Deftones vocalist Chino Moreno revealed that what the band has been producing will feature “out of the box” concepts that may feature a different sound quite different from what fans normally expect but still have the same feel.
“It’s definitely a Deftones record, and it has all the elements that make us who we are,” Moreno said.
“We’re not going out there to change anything, other than just thinking outside the box.” Although Moreno revealed that the band would take a different turn with the sound, the same Deftones feel should still be expected that would surely not disappoint fans.
The singer further revealed that they are taking this as a challenge for themselves and make the record be as unique as possible.
“I feel like we’ve gone into the songs and really dissected them,” he said.
“If something sounded a little straight, we took a left turn and made things a little screwy.
We just tried something completely opposite, not to sabotage it, but to challenge ourselves and try new things that we haven’t done in the past.” Furthermore, Deftones was reported to be working on a different album, entitled “Eros” before their former bassist Chi Cheng passed away.
In another Rolling Stone report , Moreno revealed that “Eros” would be remained unreleased for now.
However, he further revealed that the unreleased tracks could still be possibly put out after the release of the new Deftones album.
“I get asked about that record a lot,” the singer said.
“For a while, I was giving the same answer, ‘No, no, no, no, no, no, no.’ After Chi’s passing, I went back and listened to some of the record and it was a pretty intense experience, to say the least.” “I think it should be released, but we don’t have any definite plans.
There’s some work to do on it.
Deftones have been moving forward in a strong, positive motion, so for us to stop and reflect on something five years ago, I don’t know if we’re ready for that.”
