The movie adaptation to the hit zombie-themed game is finally now on its way to the big screen after a previous deal with Lionsgate in 2011 was dropped.
Deep Silver, the publisher of the game is now trying his luck for the second time to bring Dead Island to the silver screen.
According to Deadline, Silver is now in partnership with Occupant Entertainment to finance, produce and package project based on the highly acclaimed zombie-theme game.
“The Dead Island universe offers a rich and unique setting that can expand beyond the pure gaming experience,” Deep Silver owner Koch Media CEO Dr.
Klemens Kundratitz revealed.
“We are very much looking forward to seeing Dead Island open up to new audiences and showing off the fun everybody at Deep Silver has with this brand.” The planned movie is reportedly going to be based on something between the first or second game or rather from the famous trailers it previously featured.
“Deep Silver has created a highly successful game franchise based on very cinematic, widely viewed and well received trailers, which provide a great template for launching a film franchise with a distinctive and commercial take on the zombie apocalypse,” said Occupant Entertainment’s Joe Neurauter and Felipe Marino.
The game gained millions of viewers on its original CGI trailer on YouTube and was awarded with Golden Lion award during the International Festival of Creativity at Cannes that sparked interest from Lionsgate to develop a film adaptation.
