“Community” Season 6 will officially begin filming November 17.
Today saw a huge announcement of new cast members.
We already know the Russo brother will direct episode 1, but Jim Rash (the dean) and Nat Faxonl, will direct the second episode whichi will feature ‘Clue’ stars Martin Mull and Lesley Ann Warren as Britta’s parents.
Entertainment Weekly reports that Mull and Warren will appear in the second episode as Britta’s parents, though few details of the episode’s plot are known.
The second half-hour of the season will also serve as an introduction to Keith David’s character Elroy Patashnik, a retired scientist who comes to Greendale to reinvent himsel Paget Brewster from “Criminal Minds” and Keith David from “Enlisted” are joining the cast of ” Community.” Brewster will play Francesca “Frankie” Dart, a consultant brought in to help whip the school into shape, while David plays retired scientist Elroy Patashnik.
According to IGN not only is Alison Brie under contract for Season 6, so is Joel McHale , Yvette Nicole Brown , Gillian Jacobs , Danny Pudi , Ken Jeong and Jim Rash .
However, the most recent news is that Yvetter Nicole Brown will be leaving the show for personal reasons, specifically to care for her ailing father who will require more time than a busy shooting schedule would allow.
TVGuide reports Brown asked Yahoo and creator Dan Harmon to be released from her ‘Community’ contract saying, “The idea of being away 16 hours a day for five months, I couldn’t do it.
It was a difficult decision for me to make, but I had to choose my dad,” says Brown.
Brown praised Harmon for supporting her through the difficult decision, while Harmon had his own brief statement with ‘Community’ executive producer Chris McKenna: “Yvette was an integral part of Community and is irreplaceable.
We are sad to see her go and wish her the very best.” As Community season 6 will also see the departure of season 5 addition Jonathan Banks for his regular role on AMC’s ‘ Better Call Saul ,’ the report also reveals that the cult comedy series is looking to cast both a female consultant brought in to help shape up the school, and a retired salesman who comes to Greendale to reinvent himself.
All that said, Netflix recently announced a new Gillian Jacobs, Judd Apatow show called “Love” and much of the rest of the cast is making plans for their next job, making many speculate that season 6 will be the last, ( and if the tv gods will it, hopefully a movie) Dan Harmon tweeted the following to allieviate everyone’s fears, ” The rumor about Alison Brie not returning is utterly, 100 percent false.
I’d add a joke but I don’t want to be unclear.
She’s coming back!” TVoverMind expressed some concerns with the number of departed cast members saying, ” No, it’s not the writing but something else that has me concerned me about Community Season 6.
I can’t stress enough how big of a deal it is that the show will be without not just Donald Glover, who left the series after the fifth episode of Season 5, but Yvette Nicole Brown.
It is completely understandable why Brown could not continue with the series, as she left to take care of her ailing father and instead took a series regular job on the CBS’s The Odd Couple reboot, which is a multi-cam sitcom and requires a lot less hours on set than a single-camera comedy like Community .
However, whether you thought Shirley was the funniest character on the show or not, Brown’s presence has been invaluable throughout all five seasons of Community , and unlike Danny Pudi’s Abed, who remained and helped fill the void left by Troy’s departure, there’s no one else on the show like Shirley-her character is completely unique and different from the rest of the Greendale gang.
In an interview with Yahoo Dan Harmon said, ” Yeah cameras will be rolling on November 17, and we’re going to start with writers September 8.
So yeah, I don’t know what Yahoo plans to do with what we deliver to them on what schedule – that’s up to them – but it would seem to me that we will start to see a new season of Community sometime in the new year.” In other news, Joe and Anthony Russo will return to Glendale and direct the premiere episode of Community Season 6.
The two brothers have directed 33 episodes of the show, including the pilot.
However, since Community began the directing brother’s careers have really taken off, as they recently filmed the blockbuster “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” In an interview conducted during the release of Captain America: The Winter Soldier DVD and Blu-Ray, the brothers were asked about their return to direct in Community.
Anthony said, “We will be returning.
We’re going to do the first episode [of Season 6] for those guys.
We’re going to have a little fun with that episode.
[Community executive producers] Dan Harmon and Chris McKenna are cooking up something very cool for us…The quality is always so high for the scripts on that show, so it’s very exciting to tear into one of those scripts as a director.” Cameras will be rolling on November 17, and the writer’s room will get to work September 8.
Harmon told Yahoo tv blog “If there’s benefits to being on Yahoo instead of NBC I think it’s going to have a lot to do with the fact that, now, watching the show on your computer isn’t a crime.
It’s not going to be discouraged, and if we do tie-ins with the characters as real people that are living in a post-millennial age where everyone’s existing and connecting on computers, I think that Yahoo over NBC will be able to roll with those creative choices.
If we want to do special things that are interactive or things like that…
it won’t just fall on deaf ears.
I think the old broadcast networks are still looking at the internet like this new thing, and certainly Yahoo is not.
So there might be some really cool ancillary benefits to belonging to a company that understands the new world as much as the show does.” “But as far as the length of the show, the pacing of the show, the tone of the show, I think it would be a mistake to suddenly have everyone saying the word “sh–” every five minutes or smoking cigarettes or running people over with their cars or having the episodes be 40 minutes long.
I think people are probably feeling a little nervous about the show that they love.
A lot of these fans, they grew up on the show; it’s been on for six years, so there were people who were 12 years old when they started liking the show and are actually going to be voting soon and have had this show in the background their entire adult lives…
I think they’re already worried enough about the show changing because it’s changing venues, so I want to make them feel comfortable, first and foremost, and then I want to surprise them with how much better the show can be, hopefully, now that it’s out of its cocoon.” The release date for “Community” season 6 is said to be “early 2015”, and filming begins in one week (November 17) Check back for more “Community” information as it becomes available.
