After the success of their recent comeback, it seems that k-pop girl group BLACKPINK is not letting up! With their comeback album Square Two, the girls of BLACKPINK had topped both local and global charts.
Just this week, Soompi reports that their singles “Playing With Fire” and “Stay” ranked in the top of the Billboard World Digital Songs chart during the week of November 19, 2016. The upbeat Playing With Fire took the no. 1 spot while the more mellow “Stay” didn’t lag behind as it too had managed to impressively place at no. 4. Now this is the second time that the group had entered the World Digital Song Sales chart because their previous singles “Boombayah” and “Whistle” from their debut album Square One had also topped the charts a few months back, the only rookie group to do so with a debut song. According to Billboard , BLACKPINK’s latest achievement follows a similar pattern as to when they first debuted and entered the World Digital Song Sales chart. Back in August when they debuted with ” Boombayah” and ” Whistle,” the former outperformed the latter on the charts and if you think about it, ” Boombayah” is similar to ” Playing With Fire” as they are both upbeat songs and both had outperformed the much slower singles. Right now, BLACKPINK and their fellow YG Entertainment label mates and seniors, 2NE1, are the female k-pop groups with the most no. 1s on the World Digital Song Sales chart. Psy, who is also another YG artist, leads them both with four no. 1s on the chart. The girls of BLACKPINK had also entered the Billboard Social 50 chart at no. 19. When they first released Square Two this November, the girls quickly topped seven local charts mainly Mnet, Olleh Music, Naver Music, Bugs, Soribada, Genie and Monkey3 while both of their MVs garnered impressive views on YouTube that are now in the millions. Wow! It really looks like YG’s new girl group are set on dominating the industry. Kudos to them.
