'Beauty and the Beast’ Korean Release: Emma Watson Movie Dominates Box Office

“Beauty and the Beast” is Disney’s latest offering to kids and kids at heart. Now currently showing in cinemas worldwide, the revamped Disney classic did not fail to live up to expectation. The live-action film starring Emma Watson as Belle and Dan Stevens as Beast is now dominating box office records – even in South Korea. According to Variety , “Beauty and the Beast” topped the box office with a record opening of $11.9 since it opened on Thursday until Sunday.  The live-action adaptation is just one of the many live-action films from Disney as the studio is planning to do more. In fact, there are around 20 live-actions coming from Disney in the near future and that includes “Mulan,” “The Lion King,” “Aladdin,” “Pinocchio,” and “Dumbo” among others.
Due to the success of “Beauty and the Beast,” the monster film “Kong: Skull Island” is now dethroned from the top. From being on the reigns in South Korea, “Kong: Skull Island” is now down to the second spot. The movie earned a total of $11.5 million after two weekends. The numbers were based on the Korean Film Council. Third on the list is another Hollywood movie starring  Hugh Jackman. “Logan” was able to sell more than 158,000 tickets nationwide. The fourth and only Korean film in the top five is “Part-time Spy” starring Han Chae-a and Kang Ye-won. The comedy-action movie got over 89,000 views when it debuted this weekend, The Korea Herald reported. It was directed by “Dad for Rent” helmer Kim Deok Su. “La La Land,” now in theaters for more than three months, landed on the fifth spot. The movie earned around $3 million in South Korea. Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone’s musical received five Oscar awards including the Best Actress for Stone and Best Director for Damien Chazelle.
