“Batman V Superman” costume designer Michael Wilkinson discusses details of the heroes’ new outfits.
In the latest episode of DC All Access , Wilkinson reveals what went into making the costumes of Henry Cavill’s Superman, Ben Affleck’s Batman and Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman.
Wlkinson, who created Superman’s outfit in 2013’s “Man of Steel,” updated the Kryptonian’s costume with “textures that weren’t necessarily from our known world.”
For Batman, he revealed it was really important for Zack Snyder that they create a “whole new Batman,” and that the “Dawn of Justice” version of the Dark Knight will be “even bigger than Superman in silhouette.”
“A lot of incredible engineering went into the development of the new black cowl,” Wilkinson previously told Fashionista .
“It’s a very important thing to Zack that the Batsuit would be comfortable and very flexible, but then would be able to perform in a very natural and forceful way,” he revealed.
“He really wants these characters to connect directly to our world,” he went on to explain. “So if you were walking down the street and you came across Superman or Batman – of course it would be startling and powerful – but it could actually happen in our world rather than in a stylized version of our reality.”
“It’s no longer a designer just in his workroom pushing a costume out into the world and that’s it. There’s a real sense of a conversation and engaging in a dialogue about this stuff.”
Directed by Zack Snyder and written by Chris Terrio, “Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice” features Henry Cavill as Superman, Ben Affleck as Batman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Jeffrey Dean Morgan as Thomas Wayne and Diane Lane as Martha Kent.
“Batman V Superman” releases in theaters on Mar. 25, 2016.
