“Enders Game” actor Asa Butterfield is reportedly in final negoations with Marvel Studios to star as the new “Spider-Man.” The latest development on the actor’s negotiations by Latino Review’s frequent superhero film reporter, Umberto Gonzales :
Since Marvel acquired the rights to the webslinger from Sony, the MCU has been looking for an actor to play Peter Parker in his highschool years.
Asa Butterfield (Peregrine’s Home for Peculiars), Tom Holland (In The Heart of The Sea), Timothee Chalamet (Men, Women and Children), and Liam James (The Killing) were all at one point reported to be in the running to star as Spidey.
Butterfield reportedly already bagged the role, and to no surpise with various sources claiming that “Marvel had liked him since day one.” Marvel, however, has not made any statements yet about the development.
Before appearing in a solo “Spider-Man” film, the character is expected to make an apperance in Marvel’s upcoming Phase 3 movie “Captain America: Civil War.” Fittingly, “Spider-Man” really did play a major role in the Civil War comic book.
His solo film, meanwhile, is rumored to bear the subtitle “The New Avenger.” Last month, Marvel boss Kevin Feige revealed that the character was always part of their Phase 3 plans: “Spider-Man we knew about when we were doing that announcement in October,” Feige said in an interview with Crave Online , adding “we’ve been thinking about it as long as we’ve been thinking about Phase Three.” “Captain America: Civil War” arrives in theaters on May 6, 2017, followed by “Spider-Man” on Jul.
