While some people have already completely abandoned the idea of having a DVD or Blu-ray collection, there are still some of us who enjoy the hard copies.
But anime fans are getting fed up with the pricing.
This week, anime distributor Ponycan USA announced plans for the Blu-ray and DVD release of “Cute High Earth Defense Club Love.” The series has generated a decent size fandom, but upon hearing the price of the Blu-ray and DVD release, once again anime fans expressed discontent with prices outside of Japan.
“This was a good show but this isn’t ‘World trigger’ writing.
And four episodes for $89.95.
Just no and hell no.
PONYCAN USA you crazy,” said Karen Araragi on Crunchyroll.
Other anime fans noted that this pricing system reminded them of another distributor.
“Ponycon USA is the new Aniplex .
except the old Aniplex is still gouging us, too,” commented Rcsatcrunchyroll.
Crunchyroll reports that the first volume of “Cute High Earth Defense Club Love” is a three disc BD/DVD set and contains the first four episodes of the show and a bonus music CD.
The extras included are a booklet containing lyrics and illustrations as well as six bonus mini-animations.
Additionally, those who pre-order the volume before June 30 will receive a randomly selected character card illustration by animation director Yumiko Hara.
The price in question that fans are protesting for “Cute High Earth Defense Club Love” is $89.95.
When you consider the price of an average TV show Blu-ray collection, it is clear why anime fans are not happy.
Sadly however, steep prices for DVD imports and official US releases have become quite commonplace.
Nevertheless, an avid fan will go to many lengths for collectibles.
That is to say, despite having to pay hundreds of dollars over time, some “Cute High Earth Defense Club Love” fans will still have the satisfaction of owning the series physically.
