The wedding of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt on August 23 may be been an extremely private ceremony but when the public learned that the longtime Hollywood couple had finally tied the knot, it became one of the biggest events of the year.
Now Jolie is opening up about the big day and adjusting to marriage.
The 39-year-old actress/director recently told PEOPLE magazine that saying ‘I do’ to the father of her six children, Brad Pitt, and “recommitting after 10 years of being together” gave her an added level of “security and comfort.” “We were fortunate enough to be in that unusual situation where we got married with our children and they were part of the ceremony and they wrote some of the vows,” added the star.
The pair’s sons Maddox, 13, and Pax, 10, reportedly walked Angelina down the aisle, while daughters Zahara, 9, and Vivienne, 6, served as flower girls, and daughter Shiloh, 8, and son Knox, 6, were ring bearers.
All six of the children also helped create their mother’s gorgeous Atelier Versace wedding gown, which featured drawings that they had made.
Jolie described her wedding day with Brad and the family as “all of us agreeing to be together and to just commit to this life together.” “Not because we had to or because anything was missing in our lives,” she added, “but because we were absolutely sure we gelt that much of a family.
It was really lovely.
It was a lovely day.” Jolie also dished on adjusting to being a wife and navigating her expectations of herself.
“I think we have more moments where I’m like, ‘I’m gonna be a better wife.
I’m gonna be a better cook.’ And he’s like, ‘Oh, honey, know what you’re good at.
Know what you’re not,’ ” she said with a laugh.
Jolie confessed to telling her husband, ” ‘No, no, I’m gonna get this wife thing down!’ But he knows my limitations and where I’m a good wife and good mom.” Jolie and Pitt also began filming a new project together called “Beyond the Sea” during their honeymoon.
Angelina is directing the film, in which she and Brad star as a couple in the 1970s who experience marital trouble.
“It felt like the appropriate thing to do on our honeymoon,” joked Jolie.
