 “American Idol” season 15 will its final season.

Reality TV singing competition show American Idol’s last season will premiere in January 2016.

Variety reported that American Idol season 15 will be hosted by Ryan Seacrest.

Jennifer Lopez, Harry Connick Jr.

and Keith Urban will return as the American Idol final season’s judges.

The last season of American is being touted as a “celebratory event,” which will pay tribute to past seasons’ contestants, winners and fans.

“American Idol,” debuted in 2002.

Created by Simon Fuller, the original judges were Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson.

Along the way American Idol singers have been judged by Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj, Steven Tyler, Kara DioGuardi and Ellen DeGeneres.

The reality competition was based on Fuller’s hit British series “Pop Idol,” which was hosted by Simon Cowell.

The success of American Idol led to other televised singing competitions like “The Voice,” “The Sing Off,” “Rising Star,” “The X Factor” and “America’s Got Talent.” American Idol has launched the careers of stars like Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood and Jennifer Hudson.

American Idol also made Simon Cowell a star in the United States.

Other winners include Jordin Sparks, Katharine McPhee, Chris Daughtry, Clay Aiken, Ruben Studdard, Fantasia Barrino, Phillip Phillips and Adam Lambert.

American Idol also had a 2003 spinoff called “American Juniors,” which aired for one season.

The series also produced the movie “From Justin to Kelly,” which starred the season 1 winner Kelly Clarkson and runner-up Justin Guarini.

The singing competition had been a huge prime-time hit and was hugely influential, but it has been seeing a steady decline in ratings, especially in the 18-49 age group.

American  Idol’s audience has been hovering around less than 9 million viewers.

The last season of “American Idol” will begin in January.

Fox hasn’t announced how many episodes will be in the final season.

No word on the midseason winter schedule yet at Fox, but Fox’s breakout hit “Empire,” which was paired with “Idol” this past season, is being led-in by new medical drama “Rosewood” this fall.
