This past Tuesday night, Alfonso Ribeiro became the 19 th winner in “Dancing With The Stars” history.
He and partner Witney Carlson wowed the judges after tearing up the floor with three near perfect dance routines, and the duo proved to be quite the competition for finalists Sadie Robertson and Janel Parrish.
For those who missed the two-hour finale, it went a little something like this: Firstly, Bethany Mota and partner Derek Hough performed an encore of their freestyle routine from Monday night by popular demand.
Next, endless clips played that looked back on the season – its stars, routines, and all.
Nick Jonas performed his new single, “Jealous,” and eliminated stars returned to the stage to dance their favorite routines one last time.
USA Today reports that Bruno Tonioli’s 59 th birthday was celebrated, and that Meghan Trainor came on stage to perform a medley of her hits.
Finally, the three finalists danced one more time, with Alfonso and Witney closing out the night in a cha cha/ Argentine tango mixed routine.
Before the winner was announced, Ribeiro stated, “Ten years ago I wanted to be here, and I’ve wanted to be here every year in between.” When he heard his name called, he was extremely excited.
He exclaimed , “I cannot believe this! I’ve wanted this forever!” Later, he told US Magazine , “I was kind of in shock! I almost fell to my knees right there because it was so amazing.
And what a happy moment.
We so did not expect that.
I said to [partner] Witney [Carson] right before, ‘Be prepared to hear Mark [Ballas] and Sadie.'” When asked what gave him an edge over his competition, Ribeiro replied , “I have no idea! But we stayed our course the entire time.
We said, ‘Let’s get out there, do the best we can that week, and not worry about what’s coming next and what happened before.’ And that just kept us in the moment…We were in it, and it was a great experience.”
