The official programme for the the 2015 Cannes film festival in May has been released.

In competition: Out of competition: Uncertain regard:     Special screenings: Midnight screenings: The Verge reports that the 68th Cannes film festival will make history by opening with Emmanuelle Bercon’s “La Tête haute,” the first female directed film to open the festival in 28 years.

The last time was in 1987, with Diane Krys’ “A Man in Love.” The Cannes Film Festival, for years, has been criticized for opening with flashy American titles such as Pixar’s “Up” and Wes Anderson’s “Moonrise Kingdom” and failing to include more female directed films.

The 2015 Cannes film Festival will take place from May 13-24, with the official selection to be announced on Apr.
