YG Entertainment’s WINNER have received the Best New Artist award at the 2014 MelOn Awards.

The group wore a fashion-forward concept which drew attention on the Red Carpet.

Block B were the recipients of the Best Dance Artist Male award for “HER.” The hit song “SOME” by SoYou and Junggigo was recognized through the Hot Trend award.

the Max was the recipient of the Best Ballad award for “Wind that Blows.” Kim Do Hoon was the recipient of the Best Song Writer award for his many hits.  Fly to the Sky beat out Big Bang’s Taeyang for Best R&B Soul award, while the Best Rap & Hip-Hop award went to San E and Raina.

  While there were numerous performance, the highlight definitely came  from the enthusiastic stage by WINNER.  Here is a recap of part one of the 2014 MelOn Awards.

IU kicked off the ceremony with the ballad her remake of Cho Deok Bae’s ‘80s hit “My Old Story.” Her stage was preceded by a video introduction of a woman who was reminiscing about the past.

She was accompanied by live instrumentals from a band comprised of senior citizens.

She then sang “Meaning of You.” She was accompanied by an adorable children’s choir for “Meaning of You” making her performance a multi-generational stage.

Enes and Julian of the international program “Non-Summit” presented the first award from the Top 10 to Girl’s Day, followed by YG Entertainment’s Akdong Musician who were seated by Winner.

Solo vocalist Lim Kim then took the stage to present the Best New Artist Award.

Nominees included Winner and Red Velvet.

The Best New Artist Award went to Winner.

Comedienne Lee Guk Ju then presented a comedy prior to introducing SoYou and Junggigo for a stage of their hit “SOME.” Baek Sung Hyun and Kang Ye Bin then presented the next Top 10 award to BEAST.

2NE1 was not present for their Top 10 award which was given to Akdong Musician.

The fans within the crowd were visibly disappointed.

A Pink performed with a live marching band for their song “Mr.

Chu.” Then there was a look at the history of the winner of the Best Dance Artist Male award including H.O.T, g.o.d, 2PM, Big Bang, TVXQ, BEAST, EXO, and Block B.

Block B received the Best Dance Artist Male for “HER.” Nominees for the Hot Trend award included IU, San E, Soyou/Junggigo, Gary and Jung In.

The award was given to Soyou ad Junggigo.

San E and Raina then performed a colorful, costumed stage of “Midsummer Night’s Sweetness.”  Girl’s Day performed a tango version of  “Something” prior to Kim Do Hoon’s win for Best Songwriter.

The Max then received the Best Ballad Award for “Wind that Blows.” The Best R&B Soul award nominees included 2NE1, Soyou and Junggigo, Beenzino and Junggigo, Taeyang Eyes Nose Lips.

The winners were Fly to the Sky for “You You You.” Best Rap & Hip-Hop Award went to San E.

and Raina.

The Top 10 award was then given to Taeyang.

The crowd went wild for the star.  Taeyang’s appearance was followed by a piano montage of the hits of 2014.

Then, WINNER performed an epic stage.

Their performance led to the start of part two of the award ceremony.
